Notes
I'm an excellent basketball player when most of the rest of the players are third-graders.
What to do on a really hot day? Buy sleds at a garage sale.
Bernadette finds "Take a chance on me" to be a highly amusing song.
Isaiah: Hear the fireworks?
Me: I can hear the fireworks.
Isaiah: They're outside. I can hear the blue ones.
I wish I could tell the color of fireworks by sound.
Had to take the seat out of the car to find Marian's wedding ring that had fallen off and slipped under part of the carpet. In the absence of a socket set, the Visegrip did a fine job of helping me loosen those bolts, included the rusted one.

What to do on a really hot summer Saturday? Buy sleds. Buy snow boots. Wear the snow boots and a hat Lisa made for Daddy around the air conditioned house.

At the Price Chopper deli counter, the woman handed me my turkey and asked if I needed anything else.

We Love Our Chuthers

The other night I was trying to nurse Bernadette to sleep while Isaiah played in the living room. She was starting to settle down when suddenly he laughed. Then Bernadette's head popped up, showing a beaming face. She sat up, pointed toward the door, and said, "Izzah!"

Yesterday morning, Isaiah (who has been a kitten lately) had the following announcement to make while I dressed him: "Kitten wants to see Pete and Magda." I told him we would see them another day. Not satisfied, he said pleadingly: "It's the kitten's best friends."

A couple of mornings ago, when Isaiah and I were snuggling on the couch after his morning nursing, he touched my shoulder and said, "I like this." Then my ear: "I like this." My eye: "I like this." My hair: "I like this." My elbow...my forehead...my thumb...
Isaiah's Life in Literary Quotes

While brooding over a pile of pennies he found in the car: "One's cheeks burned with the silent imputation of parsimony that such close dealing implied." (From The Gift of the Magi--which, I can't help mentioning, we haven't read in at least six months)

While carrying his stuffed dog (who happens to be Wishbone, Clare) and squirrel (named Nutkin, Ms. Potter) to bed: "It's so much more friendly with two." (From Winnie-the-Pooh)

While whimpering on the floor after having been denied a second piece of cake: "It's so mysterious, the land of tears." (From The Little Prince)

Notes

My lightning bug catching skills have atrophied, but the chase with a bunch of kids is still magical.

Bernadette has found her calling: Dropping wooden blocks into an old coffee can.

Isaiah, selectively eating his chili: “Here comes the bean train.”

At the playground, Bernadette snacked on sticks and sand.

This stop resulted in a long ride through San Francisco in traffic, screaming from the backseat and overpriced gas from the car rental company, but it was worth it. Right?

Monday, July 11, 2011

Isaiah and Daniel got a seat in the most coveted ride of the reunion: Chris' Sunbeam convertible.
