Winter walk

On a February Friday, temperature above freezing and a slight runoff on the ground, we took a short walk in Nebraska at Diamond Lake (it's not large).

Matt's 45th!

Mara

She's been using the word "accidentally" a lot lately, but I have no idea what she thinks it means, based on the ways she's been using it. For example:

"I accidentally brought marbles to the table."

"I am going to accidentally drop this [doll stroller]." She immediately dropped it.

"I accidentally cried."


Another favorite phrase with her right now is "How dare you!" This one is mostly directed toward her sisters in moments of anger, so I think she has a pretty good grasp of its meaning.


And here are some moments from yesterday's adventures:

We went on a field trip to the Strategic Air Command Museum near Omaha. At one of the children's exhibits, she wanted me to do something (I forget what), but I wanted to sit down and rest.

Mara: "Mama, you're supposed to do what you're told."

Marian: "Really? And who's supposed to tell me what to do?"

Mara: "I am."

Marian: "Oh, is that how it works?"

Mara: "That's how I work."

After the museum, we visited Barnes and Noble. The kids got treats from the cafe through the generosity of their grandpa, and the girls used some Christmas money to buy unicorn activity boxes (sigh...). In the van on the way home, Mara announced, "I got two receipts. Grandpa got me one, and the lady [who rang her up for the unicorn box] gave me one. That was serious." Yep. You know you've had a day of serious shopping when you go home with two receipts.
