Other kids have great toys

Not only does Brody have lots of neat toys, but he also has his own bedroom. Isaiah had a great time sticking as many new things as possible in his mouth.

He's getting much stronger on his hands and knees and can get his belly off the floor. He wants to move, but that part is still unsolved. He's also reaching for things he wants, including Marian's hair when went for the imposition of ashes at church tonight.

Reading

Uncle Paul is known for his yarns, but Aunt Liz is an excellent storyteller, too. Note that Paul is very interested in the book, too.

The bedroom sessions

Isaiah was fascinated while Pete practiced Sunday at Grandma's. He showed a real appreciation for jazz guitar, although he tried to eat the instrument once the playing was done.

Oblivious

When Isaiah's awake, the hat in the eyes is highly annoying to him and anyone within earshot. When's he's asleep, it's just funny.

Maybe it's instinct, but Edie stayed far away from the grabbing hand and slobbery tongue this evening.

Mobility

Peekaboo

Isaiah peeks out from the sling while Marian tries to work around the house. Two days ago he figured out how to roll back after turning onto his tummy. Yesterday I watched him roll to his stomach, grab a stuffed animal and roll back.

Uncle Rod and Aunt Martha

Isaiah got to meet some of the Menke side relatives on Jan. 25 in Hartford. Rod and Martha drove down and had lunch with us.

Isaiah doesn't like being strapped into the car, but he often sleeps well once we're moving.

Music to our ears

Non-starving young Isaiah spent Sunday afternoon at the Starving Artists cafe on City Island listening to Uncle Pete and hanging out with aunt Magda. Later on, while we had brownie sundaes, he stuck to milk.

Toys

Wooden spoons qualify under the category of anything Isaiah can stick in his mouth is a toy.

Bookworm

We were reading the other night when I noticed Isaiah reaching for the book. I handed it to him, and he promptly stuck it in his mouth. I reset the book and we snapped a picture before he again applied the tongue test.

Then I decided it was time for some heavier subjects (I believe the book is open to the section about black holes).

Unwrapping presents

Isaiah had no interest in what was inside the paper (unless he could shove it into his mouth), but give him something he can pull toward his mouth and his grip is strong. He's getting better at holding and manipulating rattles, stuffed animals, chew toys and glasses. He also has picked up a couple of items after dropping them, although generally he sounds an alarm and pulls in parental assistance if something falls and he doesn't find it immediately.
