Firsts

Kateri takes her first subway ride, visits her first Indian restaurant and hangs out late at a bar on the Lower East Side for the first time (somewhat against her will; that Peter Tascio guy is kinda loud).

Hanging With Uncle Pete

Pete has been forgiven for disappearing into the ocean for several weeks. Of course, it took Pete a few minutes of hitting himself in the face to convince our young skeptic that he really is a funny guy and not a scary pirate.

Saturday, PT, Isaiah and I wandered around New York while Marian attended a conference. We saw a marching band (some German parade), used the swings in Central Park, stomped on the FAO Schwartz keyboard, tried to grab trucks from the shelves, ate chicken and garnered plenty of attention from Isaiah lovers everywhere.

Strolling

Rain didn't stop Isaiah, Paul and I from exploring the new High Line park in lower Manhattan on Friday. It's built on the elevated bed of a rail line that once served the warehouses near the Hudson.

First subway ride

On the trip to the urban wheatfield last week, Isaiah rode the subway for the first time (it was his second MetroNorth trip). Sights and sounds intrigued him and me.

You're not in Marshall County
Mom, Dad and I gave Marian a break this afternoon and drove down to Brooklyn to look at the Waterfalls, the summer art installation on the waterfront visible from Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. You can see one pouring onto Dad's head and another in the distance across the water. It was noted that this project might not work in Marysville. We walked along the East River and explored the park between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. There was plenty of sculptures for Dad to check out as he looked for the perfect artist to use at Lincoln Center. It was a beautiful day, partly cloudy and breezy.
Farmers' market food samples. (Liz and I went to the Bronxville farmers' market this morning and foraged.)

Anniversary party

We had dinner at Grimaldi's followed by ice cream on the water. Magda, Pete and Liz met us to help us celebrate. Wish all the other folks that contributed to the wedding in any way could have been there, but I guess we only get to throw a party like that on years divisible by five.

The Waterfalls (at night)

Two in the afternoon sun

With bridges

On Monday Marian and I headed to Brooklyn to celebrate our first anniversary after a fun day of baby appointments, hotdogs, and more. From the piers below the Brooklyn Bridge the views included one of this summer's biggest public art projects in New York. Read more about the project by Olafur Eliasson.

Doesn't Liz look fabulous in her new apartment?

Liz closed on her new place last week. It's within walking distance of our house (free baby-sitting?). Painting and moving are ongoing. She shares with us the lovely Bronxville address within the city limits of Yonkers, or Bronkers as mentioned by someone in the Sunday Times.

Bronx real estate/gallows humor
If you look closely at the sign in the window of this former funeral home, it says "Last Stop Realty." How convenient.

Yankee Stadium
Zach, James and Luke take in a game at the final season in the old Yankee Stadium. From our bleacher seats we got to see Mariano Rivera sit in bullpen while the Yankees lost to the Reds. Zach left his Red Sox hat at the hotel.
