Snapshots of the week

After a long school day, Isaiah and Kateri went out with Daddy and Grandpa; I could hardly keep my eyes open and was preparing to lie down with Mara, when Bernadette asked me to read more of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  "Oh, Bernadette," I said.  "I really need a breather."  Pause.  "So," she said, "I'm your breather?"

As I tried to finish getting supper on the table tonight, I asked Bernadette to check on Mara and let me know if she still seemed happy on the living room floor with her play gym.  Isaiah must have taken it upon himself to check as well, because a minute later he came up to me and reported, "Mara's look is solemn."

Last night, during a lively game of Go Fish, Bernadette insisted she had the full set of Angelfish cards.
Grandma: "You have three.  There are four Angelfish.  You need one more."
B: "NO!  I have ALL the Angelfish!"
The above dialogue was repeated a few times, until the furious Bernadette began throwing cards and Grandma decided it would be wisest to proceed to the next player's turn.
G: "Your turn, Kateri."
K: "Bernadette, do you have any Angelfish?"
Epilogue: B handed over her three cards without a fuss, and K happily laid the full set of four Angelfish cards on the floor in front of her.  I don't remember who won the game, but there was much laughter.

notes

Enter stage left, running: Bernadette in pink polka dot dance outfit with lacy cape that flows down her back and a couple of feet onto the floor. Exit stage right.
Enter stage left, running: Isaiah, silver (play) dagger in hand, spewing various pirate exclamations. Exit stage right.
Repeat multiple times, adding "Let it go" sung by Bernadette on the fly after a couple of passes.

Kateri is rage and the machine is going to lose

I may be the parent if the least athletic kid in the gym, which is awesome

the creative (non?)fiction of seed catalogs

Warm day: Bernadette plants a popcorn seed from lunch so we can grow our own this year. Isaiah asks for me to pitch him baseballs.

Kateri at the hotel: "I put my shoes in the microwave."

Pajamas

The new way to wear them. That's not a monster. That's a fashion decision.

Christmas quotes

Isaiah places Baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas morning. "There you go, buddy."

In church on Christmas Eve, Kateri points out the "princess" on top of the Christmas tree.  Walking home, she notices the sky full of "sparkles."

New Year's Eve morning--
Mama: "What do you want for breakfast, Bernadette?"
B: "I would like buttered toast.  With butter on it.  Toasted, please."
M: "You want buttered toast with butter on it, toasted?"
B: "Yes.  And I deserve the best."

Quotable Kateri

K (to Isaiah): "Poopyface! Poopyface!"

Mama: "No name-calling, Kateri."

K (still to Isaiah): "No name-calling, Babyface!"

Matt and I were disagreeing about where to put the couch after he had moved it to make room for the Christmas tree.

K: "Mama, why you screaming?"

M: "I'm not screaming."

K: "Mama, why you whining?"

Cute and cozy

Post-flu shot

Low fever, multiple long naps. Better than the flu. Right?

Not a baby

Yesterday I (Marian) answered Kateri with "Yes, baby?" To which she promptly and emphatically responded, "I not a baby!" Sigh. It's true. And she picked out this outfit, complete with hair bow, herself. She is officially a little girl.  Not a baby.  And so much fun!
